PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
Few places capture the cultural legacy of the landscapes around Philadelphia like the Brandywine Museum of Art. Set artfully within the landscape that inspired much of the priceless collection within, the Museum experience is at once environment and art, awe and introspection, and past and future. When the floodwaters of Hurricane Ida inundated the existing museum building in 2019, the collection was spared, but the event set in motion an expansion of the museum concept to include a new building for much of the collection, as well as networked nature campus through woodlands, creek sides, meadows, and the historic studios of Andrew and N.C. Wyeth.
In partnership with Kengo Kuma & Associates and Schwartz Silver Architects, Field Operations is designing this campus and new museum building for the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art. The work draws on the subtle poetry of existing landscapes, found artifacts and textures on the site, and the creation physical and visual linkages that help tell the story of this extraordinary place. Project design work is currently underway.
