Following an international design competition in 2014, Field Operations was selected to develop a 14-acre “tunnel top” parkland for San Francisco’s historic Presidio. The Tunnel Tops bridges over the newly tunneled Presidio Parkway (formerly Doyle Drive), which for years has separated the historic Main Post from the highly popular waterfront below, including Crissy Field and Crissy Marsh, directly reconnecting the city to the bay. Through a series of connective pathways, bluff landscapes, dynamic overlooks, and social gathering places, the Tunnel Tops is set to become a central place to meet and learn, to experience, to enjoy, and to forge new forms of community and events.

The Presidio Tunnel Tops had its groundbreaking and started construction in fall 2019 with its opening slated for spring 2022. Field Operations is also working with the Presidio Trust to prepare a long-range landscape master plan for the larger 1,500-acre site.
